Welcome to Voyagers!

Instructor: Kristin Evans (Mrs. K)

The Voyagers welcome first grade students, between 6 and 7 years old, to join their crew on a quest of learning. You may enroll your student in one or both of these classes. Through the semester we navigate theme-based content covering many cross-curricular subject areas including Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Math, as well as many forms of Art. We traverse hands-on and project based learning while working with peers, solving problems all while growing and developing positive character.

My Place in Time and Space

Throughout this class, we take a voyage from our local communities to outer space while making many pit stops along the way. We transform into cartographers and use a bird’s eye view to study and locate California, our country, the continents, and oceans. Then we zoom even farther out and explore where our planet is in space all through collaborative and hands-on learning.

Character education and promoting socio-emotional growth in our students is a part of every class we teach!

Character Building

Character development is an important part of our classroom community. We cultivate a positive classroom space by building good character traits such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and perseverance. Throughout the semester we practice these regularly through the activities and learning we participate in during class.

Social Emotional Learning (S.E.L.)

Social emotional learning is the process in which we learn and apply skills related to attitudes and behavior. This includes thoughts, feelings, and actions. In our classes we work on social emotional learning through concepts such as self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills. These may be direct lessons (ex: personal vs general space) or indirect lessons as we collaborate in class.
